TN: Tahbilk Eric Stevens Purbrick Reserve Cabernet 2004

It was a 34' day here in Perth. This was decanted an hour before service, and the decanter returned to the cellar. Under cork.

Deep purple in colour, and opaque. The overwhelming hit on the nose is menthol. Underneath that, there's stewed blackberries, leather, and tobacco. There's a slight earthiness as well.

It all comes together on the palate, however. Mint is still there, but it is joined by bright raspberries, milk chocolate and nutmeg. There's grippy and noticeable tannins, and a reasonable amount of supporting acid. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with some richness, and the wine has considerable length.

Much better than the 2003 vintage. Possibly not textbook Cabernet, but likely to be textbook aged Tahbilk.
