Ahh Matt, the old days of Warren Ward, Andrew Garrett and co
Remember going to Tinlins 30 years ago, great business model and has clearly set Mr Randall up for life...might have to revisit for some bulk fortified...think it was a dollar per litre last time I was there.
Cheers Craig

I remember tasting a Tinlin bulk red cleanskin when a neighbouring camper offered me a glass. I was skeptical of a cleanskin sold in bulk but was quite surprised by the quality, at least for that vintage.

Indeed, be China ready, in so many ways ! Which includes diversification toward other emerging markets and being ready to be held at ransom if you, your industry or your government, says or does something something deemed offensive.

Sort of like when Yemen voted against a UN Security Council vote sponsored by the US and a member of the US delegation said that it would be “the most expensive vote you ever cast”? Apparently China, who could have vetoed the same resolution abstained in exchane for an easing of US sanctions and the promise of a state visit.

Looks like China has learned how to handle their affairs according to how the US (and their sycophant allies) conduct theirs.

Apoplectic responses to follow ...............

The fishing is good in Yemen.

Once on a flight from Yemen, they filled my aircraft's belly up with fish. Now this caught me by surprise as it's a rather forsaken looking place. I asked where did they get the fish from as I hadn't seen any water on descent. The handling agents said there was a lake 200 miles away and I said wow, who would have thought ? Even more amusing I asked where the fish was all going- to be eaten within 48 hours in Hong Kong. Very funny.

I often wonder about those handling agents. Even in peace I felt sorry for those living in Sanna let alone in yet another religious civil war.

But back to the thread. Be ready for China indeed.

I've always heard that Yemen is a beautiful place. Once, when travelling through the Middle East, a local asked me if I had been to Yemen and advised me to do so for he said it was one of the most beautiful places to visit. Of course war and poverty has its own role to play as does the localized view from the airport.

Another place I've alway wanted to visit was Muscat and Oman, especially after reading Jan Morris' Sultan in Oman, though it must be said that his book was about a trip he made in 1955 so things may have changed for the better which, ironically for travellers, may mean for the worse. Ha, ha.

The cover alone was enough to tempt me.

Probably mistaken with Oman. But you can use google maps to have a better qualified opinion.

Back to the thread. China wine exports are going to be an amazing ride in the upcoming years. Truly hope it's played well by the wine industry. Have to give credit to Halliday, he was onto it pretty early.

Don't know, an old school friend from my grammar school days once asked me to visit Muscat and Oman but it never transpired. It would have been a good visit because his mother's first husband was the Sultan and he was the half brother of the crown prince. His business there was apparently very successful.

The Chinese Ambassador's news conference yesterday should send a few shivers down the spines of those reliant on China for their wine exports. Not sure what I'd recommend? I travel to India a lot and it won't be the same market as China for a long time- if ever? Perhaps build some links in Hong Kong so if the CCP does fire the shot of embargoing Aussie wine truck loads of of it will disappear over the border anyways.

sadly the days of "trucks across the border" are well and truly over Jamie.
About 12 months ago, the border boys started a huge and intense campaign at the behest of our glorious leader, a fist full of dollars no longer does the trick.
