Guess the picture
I came across this impressive aerial photo which was taken earlier this month.

Can anyone guess
a) where it was taken;
b) what it's showing?

That didn't take long!
Thousands and thousands of smudge pots. Here's a close up.

The scale is phenomenal, but I guess at the prices you have to pay now for Burgundy it's worth the effort.

Re: Guess the picture
What are they burning?
Re: Guess the picture
They burn oil to create air currents in an effort to keep away the frost.

Yes, what sort of oil? Diesel, bunker, ...? Would be a lot of smoke surely.
Re: Guess the picture
Yes, though as it's spring there - no smoke taint.WineRick wrote:Ozzie W wrote:They burn oil to create air currents in an effort to keep away the frost.

Re: Guess the picture
I'm not sure what sort of oil they use, but I assume it's just diesel as that would be the most cost effective oil. The smoke is good as it helps prevent radiative cooling which causes frost.
