1994 Greenock Creek - Creek Shiraz

Post by Gianna »

I have just been given a bottle of this wine as a Chrissy present and have never drunk one before.

Would someone mind shedding some light as to the overall quality of the GC Creek Shiraz and whether the 94 was a good vintage and a drinking window.

Many thanks to whoever replies.

It is a high quality wine, terrific in fact and ready to be drunk now, lucky you. It will hold for some years but I doubt it will get any better.

Gianna, the Creek Block is high quality wine and 1994 is a good vintage for the wine. Would be very good to drink now but will hold ok for a few more years.

I'm very happy to receive a similar gift if the giver would like to see me with a BIG smile on my face.

If you do drink it soon, please let us know how it was.
Cheers - Steve
If you can see through it, it's not worth drinking!

Torb and 707 thanks for your input.

I think I will open it on Christmas morning and let it sit til lunch.
I am slow cooking a lamb roast stuffed full of garlic and rosemary that I will basted with pure olive oil (which has been marinating in sundried tomatoes and eggplants for about a week).

As a side note, I also received a 95 Moss Wood today as another Chrissy present, but having tried this wine before, there is no need to ask about this beauty.

ho ho ho, what a wonderful time of the year.

I will be sure to post both tasting notes over the next week.

Gianna, wat can I say...u r a lucky lass  and I believed a asthetically incline and well endowed one too

The Moss Wood 1995 is a classic. IMO the best wine fr this exalted Est. and it's a pity the recent vintages never live up to the height. For ur lamb, the Cabernet is a match made in heaven.
Though I havent had any Greenock Creek Blk. but fr wat I a gathered this wine is best to savour alone without any food, maybe with some nuts and strong cheeses.

Wrong! Assumptions are a dangerous thing Martin. I have had it it twice in the last year and its fine with food, nothing like the monster you make it out to be.

I'm happy to drink it with or without food. I find the Creek Blocks so chock full of complexities and nuances that the wine makes a good study on it's own.

Wish I was there for Xmas Gianna and I wish I had gift donors like yours!

Plenty of breathing is a good idea, it should develop well in the glass too.

Enjoy and don't forget to post your thoughts.
