Limited Edition Penfolds Tribute Range

Post by Ozzie W »

To celebrate 175 years of Penfolds, they've released 3 new limited edition wines. The names are um... I'll let you make up your own mind.

The Esteemed Creator Shiraz Cabernet
The Creative Genius Cabernet Sauvignon
The Commander in Chief Shiraz Cabernet

What's next? The Supreme Leader Pinot Noir?

Ha. This is getting beyond a joke. I think this will all end in tears.

Maybe North Korea is the target market?

Its been in uncle dan's for a while, given the price point, I expect it would sell well on promotion. Variety wise - the range ticks the boxes for the punter in the target market.

It's sad, isn't it? Lowest common denominator marketing that lowers the tone of the label. TWE (which owns Penfolds) did something similar with (I think) Rosemount, where they offered a chardonnay matched to chicken, and there was a dissection of the chicken on the label. Likewise shiraz and steak. Appalling marketing.

I could be really cynical and suggest that, if that marketing doesn't work, the bottles can be alternatively labelled.
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

I guess I'm not their target market, but I expect the labels have pictures of dictators on them.

'Give me a glass of the Kim Jong-un, two of the Idi Armin and for the table, a bottle of the Pol Pot sparkling'
never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Stupid names.

Probably the brainchild of some marketing exec from an IT or sporting clothes background.

Just need a Penfolds POTUS wine - orange coloured, highly volatile, targeted at the lower end of the market.
