I found a few bottles of this 2010 Avanthia Godello, Valdeorras, Galicia, Spain (13.5%) recently. It also had one of the biggest punts I've ever seen in a bottle of white wine:
Already 8 years-old, I suspect it wasn't the freshest example as the acidity was a bit low. On the other hand it was full, rich, buttery, with tropical fruit notes and an undertow of lees and oak. This is my first godello and if I had to characterize this particular example of aged godello, I would say that there are elements of chardonnay, a big chenin blanc, and viognier. This would be good ringer in a blind tasting. Apparently this wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in french oak puncheons and then spends 10 months on its lees with battonage. A big wine with a big punt.
Any good examples of godellos in Australia, or a big punted white wine bottle?
Cheers ................ Mahmoud.

Re: Big Punt, Big Wine!
I can't recall ever seeing an Australian Godello. There is bound to be someone doing it. Nothing on the Chalmers Nursery Website either.
Maybe we are avoiding Spanish grapes after the great Albarino debacle of the late 00s
I can't say I've seen a put that big before either. That is massive! I wonder if there is a legitimate reason for it being that big.

The polar opposite to this is what Pierro does with their Chardonnay bottles; as light and thin as glass can commercially be for environmental reasons. Lovely wine inside as well.
