TN: Faber Petit Verdot 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

Faber has been a Swan Valley stalwart for 20 or so years. The fruit for this wine came from Swan Valley and Dwellingup vineyards. 13.5% alcohol. Bottled under cork.

Deep purple red in colour. Rich nose of blueberries, ripe blackcurrants, violets, vanilla, cedar and milk chocolate. Maybe a slight touch of menthol. The palate is even and balanced, with dark and red fruits dominating, and the chocolate adding an extra dimension. There's a slight glycerol texture, and the wine is medium to full bodied, with a reasonably long finish.

Although I buy and have cellared a few straight PVs, I'm always a little hesitant when opening one, in case it's one dimensional (PV is often used as a blending component in cabernet based wines). This is not a one dimensional wine, and a few years in the bottle has allowed it to develop nicely.

Cheers

Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.
