TN: Robert Channon "Casanova's Storm" VP 2002

A souvenir of my one and only trip to the Granite Belt about 7 years ago. 18% alc.

Deep purple in colour. A gentle nose with raisins, fruit cake and no alcohol heat whatsoever.

The palate is modest, with hints of richnes and glycerol, but only hints. There's more raisin and grape flavours, but they're not supported by the intensity you might expect from a 16 y.o. VP. Short finish.

I rarely post negative TNs, but I cannot spruik this wine. Robert has made some very good wines over the years,but this isn't one.

Sounds rather simple Allan. Do you think it's a result of young vines, low tannins, or, because of the unusually low alcohol, a case of wine brandy being added too early in the process?

Hard to say, Mahmoud. Tannins are modest. I cannot comment on vine age. I've had fortified wines at lower alcohols that were still powerful, flavourful and textural.

Sometimes the best winemakers can get it wrong. This one made it into the bottle.
