TN: Pikes Traditionale Riesling 2015

Pale yellow in colour. Signs of development on the nose, with a hint of kero over the largely lemon (rather than lime) fruit. Some lemon blossom in there too, and a touch of sherbet.

The palate is starting to show development also, with a slight viscosity over the acid. There's lemon and a little orange under all of this. Medium finish.

I've heard that Riesling can go through a 'dumb' phase, and I wonder if this is happening here. There's some really good elements to this wine, but it seems a little disjointed. I suspect it will evolve well over the next couple of years, however.

I haven't tried the 2015 (the 2017 is fantastic and a case should be buried in everyone's cellar) but around this age I would expect it to close down. I have started trying some of the 2012 and they are just starting to emerge for business.

Indeed the 2017 Pikes Riesling is very good. I tasted it at the Riesling Riot in Sydney earlier this year. And they do age. Just a few weeks ago I had a bottle of the 2000 vintage.

2000 Pikes Riesling, Clare Valley (11%) - aged Aussie riesling, still dry but with hints of petrol; satisfying, refreshing and so characterful.
