TN: Tahbilk Eric Stevens Purbrick Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

This iconic winery has been represented in my cellar for more than 20 years. It's good to open an older one from time to time.

Purple red in colour. Developed nose of red and black fruits, especially raspberry, with fair dollops of leather, spice, and tobacco. The palate is harmonious with the developed fruits supported by a line of acid and noticeable tannins. The wine is medium bodied, with a lingering finish.

Not a typical full bodied Cabernet by any means, but a very good example of the alternative.

Cheers
Allan

I am having a fair few 02's lately and all secondary characters. Still quite oak dominant and wonder if it will ever subside/integrate ....doubtful. Medium body, lots of leather and tobacco. Earthy, but i wish the fruit hadnt fallen over. Would be much better if it was still hanging in there....but alas

I have found the 02 Shiraz is far more in its sweet spot than the cab
It’s drinking at its prime right now, whereas the cab still seems to need a bit longer, or may never be as good?
I guess only time will tell

Tahbilk cabernets are nototious for their longevity. Well stored bottles from a good vintage are likely to last at least a couple of decades.
