TN: Bests Great Western Riesling 2017

Post by Waiters Friend »

I'm starting to look at more and more 2017 Rieslings as they come onto the market.

Pale yellow in colour. Lemon / lime, a touch of sherbet, some florals. The palate is flavourful, with crisp acid supporting clean fruit down the length of the tongue. Perhaps a tiny lick of residual sugar remaining.

This seems a little lean now, and may need another year or two to fill out. It should go 5-8 years comfortably, and be very satisfying by then.

Cheers

Agreed, Great wine with a lovely lime juice/cordial flavour. $23 a bottle so a great pick up.

You should also try Best's 2017 Foudre Ferment and their House Block rieslings. The former is a very characterful limited production wine (from a single fourdre) made with partial bunch fermentation and skin contact, while the latter is a fruit and racy German Kabinett-style wine at a pleasing 10.5% made from a vineyard next to Viv Thompson's house.

Cheers ................... Mahmoud.
