There are quite a few established monthly tasting groups in Sydney already most have a waiting list and several have been going for 10+ years. You won't find many that focus only on red wines though.
Best bet is to set one up yourself by posting your plans here...I'm sure you'll fill it up fairly quickly. Choose a venue, choose a theme and make sure everyone is comfortable with the wines (price that is).
The group that I'm in has 10-15 people...one person takes responsibility for the theme of the evening and sources the wines. Wines are served masked. Wines are tasted in flights and there is a discussion after each flight with conclusions drawn and opinions given on the wines. Everyone pays the organiser at the end of the evening.
