2014 Coriole Barbera, McLaren Vale (screwcap): 14% alc. Medium red with noticeable legs on the glass. Smoky and savoury at first, tobacco, sour cherry and plums, a touch jammy and Grenache-like at times; with breathing it starts to settle into more familiar Barbera territory with peppercorns, sweet reduced raspberries and a touch of candied orange peel. The palate’s medium-weight and spicy, with a good kick of tannins coming in towards the finish. All up it’s a great wine with something meaty right now, but it needs a good breathe first.
