2006 Kabminye Pinot Blanc, Barossa Valley (screwcap): 11% alc. From a trial of Pinot Blanc grapes grafted on top of 10 year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Barrit’s vineyard in Bethany. 24 cases made. At 10 years of age, still young a pale to medium straw colour. Smells like a semillon, very grassy, lemony and toasty, a touch of almond and perfume in the background with breathing. The palate’s has a punchy entry with pear and tart apple, leading to an oily palate with crunchy acidity, finishing a touch bitter with a hint of green tea. While it will live a long time it will always need something like shellfish to match.
