1991 Knight Granite Hills Reserve Cabernets magnum, Macedon (cork): 15% alc. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot, matured 30 months in French & American oak. Light to almost medium brick/red. Earthy and slightly stewy nose at first that opens up nicely with redcurrants, cedar, black liquorice, tobacco and aged soy. The entry of the palate is punchy, full of redcurrants and cranberries, finishing long and minty, slightly leafy with breathing; while it’s no heavyweight, it somehow manages to hide the 15% alc and 30 months in oak remarkably well. A very pleasant surprise.
