A friend has just given me a 2004 grange. I know its been stored in addict with fluctuated temperatures since release. Its in the low neck and some evidence of minor seepage. What should i do with it ?
I could take the risk and wait a couple years until its old enough to take to a recorking clinic. Even then im risking loosing it.
Flog it on auction and let someone else take a chance.
Probly not the right thing to do as i wouldnt like to be the buyer.
Drink it. And be dissapointed. It might still be ok.
Whats your thoughts ?

On a serious note, it's a touch of Schrodinger's Cat..... for mine, prove that it's alive by drinking it. It's a great Grange, and some 2004s are just coming to an early peak.

If your conscience will not let you flick it to auction, then I'd pop it and see. If it were me, I'd rather find out now than come to it in 2030 and find it is buggered.

I concur... open it now. There is a possibility given storage at higher temperatures it could have accelerated the ageing process without completely cooking the wine.

You could open it and try it - if it's much too early and ok u could refill with a little 389 and recork it or pour it into another bottle with a stelvin. I've recorked lots of bottles over the years without any detrimental effect.
If you can remember what a wine is like the next day you didn't drink enough of it
