Has anyone ever accidentally opened a bottle that they didn't mean to? Tonight I cracked our second and last 2011 Rockford BPS when I meant to open a 2013 Rifle Range. It was to be a 10 year tester but not anymore. I'd moved the RR into the cooler Vintec this morning and tonight I simply grabbed the bottle from the shelf I thought it was on not realising that I'd put the RR in the same position on a shelf below it.
Oh well, it was a delicious accident

Re: Accidental Openings
Not personally, though on a slightly related note a friend who ran a wine shop was struggling to locate a rather expensive bottle of wine during the regular inventory. After looking high and low, he slumped in his chair at the large tasting table, and his eye caught one of the many tasting notes scribbled onto the table (a little tradition they had).... and there is was, a tasting note for that very wine, dated as well. He may have had no memory of opening it or drinking it, but the table didn't lie.

Not an accidental opening, as such, but my husband recently accidentally gifted a friend a 2012 Mt Ed as a housewarming gift (he was supposed to grab a Johann's Garden).

To err is human I guess…….but to forgive ?

After a day at the footy and pretty drunk with a mate of mine, we went back to my brothers place (who was not home at the time). I phoned my brother to say we were at his house. We let ourselves in and on my brothers instruction "you can open a bottle of wine off my rack". My mate took this quiet literally. He grabbed a 2008 St Henri and promptly opened it. We consumed it rather quickly. It was my brothers only bottle and he did not get a drop. Needless to say he was less than happy with what we opened...he meant something more quaffable.

I've bought and opened a bottle of Giant Steps Pinot, not til it hit the glass that I found it was Chardonnay. Tarraford, was delightful.
A few years back I bought two bottles of Benevelli - a bottle of the basic Nebbiolo, and a 2006 Barolo. I cut the capsule off what I thought was the Nebb, corkscrew poised when I luckily realised it was the Barolo. It's still sleeping soundly, sans capsule.
