Thinking of spending a couple days in and around he Yarra with the missus. Any tips on accommodation, places to eat or other gems?

Accommodation
Heaps of options depending on your budget. Chateau Yering is my favourite if you want to splurge and impress the missus. What style of accommodation are you after? Hotel, B&B?
Places to Eat
The best restaurants seem to be ones attached to wineries. My favourites are Oakridge, Yering Station, Eleonore's, De Bortoli, and Rae's. There's some discounts available too if you have an Entertainment Card.
Other Gems
Coombe - charming estate that used to belong to Dame Nelli Melba.
TarraWarra Museum of Art - small, but excellent.
Yarra Valley Chocolateire - very commercial, but great for chocoholics.
Make sure you book the restaurants and other attractions in advance.

Agree on Chateau Yering if you want to splurge. For a semi but lesser splurge I'd recommend staying at Balgownie Estate.
Cellar Door wise - I enjoyed Coldstream Hills but I'm a Chardonnay lover and not everyone is a fan.
Food wise - I enjoyed Domaine Chandon for a lunch, small plate style eating.

I'd do the Maddens Lane route and go to Coldstream Hills, Yarra Yering, Dominique Portet & Pimpernel.
If you're after something less formal to eat, Soumah is great and also has nice chardonnay.

I really enjoyed Yarra Valley Dairy. They have a great selection of wines,food & cheeses. Lovely rustic little place.
Agree with Yarra Valley Chocolaterie. Quite commercial, but (if you have) kids will love it.
They make good ice cream if its a warm day as well.
Mac Forbes would be on my list of wineries to visit along with Timo Mayer Wines (not sure if they have a cellar door though?)
Seville Hill are really underrated and make a smashing Cabernet. I have drunk many of their 2010's.

Healesville Hotel has a great list of local wines & food.
Yering Farm, again small & rustic.
Oakridge if you are after something big & commercial (Dave Bicknell is a superstar)...possibly rochford. They have won a few awards recently, but I havent tried any of their current releases. Marc Lunt worked for DRC a while ago and is trying to lift Rochford Pinot Profile.
