Another enjoyable night. Service was slow, the food was reasonable, the intestines were not.
2003 Petaluma Riesling - fresh cut grass, instant wax, lemon acid has settled nicely, slight hint of sweetness on the back. Very good 2015 Burton McMahon St Georges - light bright lemon sherbet, tropical fruits, struck match, stone fruits and cashew 2011 Curly Flat - tinned corn, bright nectarine and pineapple slight sour tinges, not great. P1 2012 michael hall - red roses and dark cherry, dark Mulch, slip of varnish, nice finish 90 P2 - 2013 slow wine co - really fragrant, earthen, forest, dark mint, kirsch, like. 91 P3 - 2012 Farrside brambly forest, meaty, smoke, earth, light vanillan, dark cherry, 92 P4 - brokenwood Beechworth - light and sour, green, bright cherry, acetic acid, meh 85 P5 - 2012 Bream Creek - sweet fruited, cherry, spice, full fruit, a little generic 89 P6 - 2015 allies assemblage - lighter, more finesse, light stalky strawberry, overriding acid, delicate, not a big fan. 89 P7 - 2015 Lethbridge Ménage au noir - strawberry, raspberry fruit, racy strawberry acid, cherry gum. 90 P8 - 2009 domaine magnien fixin - beauty, earth and barnyard funk, dark cherry, takes you to a place, furry tannin. Like 93 P9 fromm- foresty, dark grasses and black sour cherry, cinnamon spice, a bit meh. 89 P10 Mac Forbes - light bright spicy, red cherry and cranberry, stalky tannin grip 90 P11 2006 ten minutes by tractor - home for Pinot, food affected, but a superb Pinot. Sweet fruited, brambly cherry, deep earthen spices. Love this. P12 2015 garagiste Le stagiaire - bright spritz young, light bright cherry, avg. 89 2014 les Dolomies macvin de Jura - stinks of funky soap, palate is a different beast though. sweet orange petal, lean syrupy on palate. Nose no, palate redeemable. 90
Got home with a few of the left overs and decided to try a few different combinations, cause I needed it. 15 mac Forbes - still light bright cherry and cranberry spice, lean finish. Very soft thing, which lends to a new world Pinot. Not bad V 12 bream creek - darker cherry, almost oxidised feel. Brambly cherry and dark forest floor quite unyielding and a bitter finish. Mac wins 7-5.5
Short Story: After advising some tough guy that he should consider not trying to fight a couple of nerds for saying stupid sheet in a Chinese restaurant - because, you know, we all want to go for a few dumplings and then punch someone's head in - and then being almost subjected to the same 'don't touch me bro', 'who the f are you?' conversation. Well champ, I'm the guy who will shove a broken bottle of Mac Forbes in to your face if you don't calm the f down and walk the other way!' Which mind you may have been a waste of a nice bottle and coloured screwcap. Needless to say, there was a back off, both parties walked away and said bottle of Mac Forbes survived and was subjected to be being re tasted. On second thoughts, maybe i should have just glassed the clown, cause this Mac Forbes is relatively pants! 15 Mac Forbes - lean raspberry cherry rhubarb, drying earth a feature, wet green leaves, sitting with it. Good lean fruit. Light, bright. Vs 13 slow wine co - ultra earthy, cinnamon spice perfume with a hit of cherry. Lovely sweet, but savoury tannin. Really like! Slow wine wins 8-7
13 slow wine - mushroom, carb cherry cinnamon spiced, drying tannin, sweet and savoury. Decent vs 12 michael hall - dark cherry, and earth, savoury funk, but lean and bright, pokey acid. Slow wine 7-6
2012 Michael Hall vs dark cherry, cinnamon spice , earthen notes. Not a bad thing 2009 Magnien Fixin - serious, chook poop, French barns, bright cherry, alluring. Still Pinot of the night for me. Fixin wins 8-7
2009 magnien fixin: this is where I sit in burgundy. An old mans crop. Overlooking the vines, wet earth creeps in, got mud on his gumboots. A barn, close but in the distance. Shuttles of traffic. Moving by swiftly. The roadside I see in the distance, but I am here. Sitting in the foregrounds of a chateau. Grand in times gone by. The earth I can taste. The many fingers pruning the vines, the blood, and the sweat is in there too. We produce the funk. The funk that almost cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world. They point to it over there, they can see it. A point where grapes disappear and hard work, festidious fingers suck the grapes off the vines and in to the palm. This is a beaut.. Vs 2013 slow wine - earth and spice, alluring perfume light bright and lean palate that finishes with some foresty notes. Pretty good stuff tbh for 30.
Yeah, as I was packing my gear up, two tables began having heated words. One party (nerds, who had said something inappropriate) got up and paid their bill, while the others were finishing off their meal, and finished soon after. I left the restaurant, but waited outside as I could see things bubbling, and tough guy had a head of steam up. He was going to go after the nerds once he left the restaurant. I got in there and told him to calm down and go the other way.. an interesting end to the night.

LOL classic. Makes note not to disagree with PC79 when discussing wines...
"Hey Dave I'm really getting Lemon, Tropical Fruits in this McClaren Vale Shiraz", "Ummm yep now that you mention it, I am am too....totally agree"
