I've just finished reading Sideways: A Novel which is the basis for the movie of the same name that I mentioned in a previous post. As usual book and movie are sufficiently different to make both worth searching out. The narrator of the novel, Miles, is a pinot fanatic and the weeklong vinous rampage with friend Jack through Santa Ynez, California, wine country makes mention of numerous pinots. Its not great literature, but it is that rare book - wine fiction. If you have any interest in wine you will no doubt share a smile over many of the moments of wine passion, even if many of the wines are unknowns in Oz.
After reading Sideways I got to thinking if there is any Oz wine fiction. Anyone have any recommendations?

Mike,
There is heaps of Oz wine fiction out there, most of it on US wine discussion forums.

Ric, don't I know it! That's why I reckon there must be a few books written on the subject.

Good read with a wine theme running though it is Vintners Luck by Elizabeth Knox. She is a kiwi author and has based the story in the vineyards of France. Its a excellent read and not light by any means. In New Zealand it won the Deutz Medal for Fiction and the Montana Book Award. Printed by Victoria University of Wellington and more info can be gained from www.vuw.ac.nz/vup/
Cheers

There is one (not so) fiction book in my head titled "Club nights 1992-2002" as I kept diaries of 10 years of meeting characters, collectors, belly dancers, fanatics, idiots, snobs, millioners, winemakers at our club dinners which always give me great pleasure to read. My God, we've drunk some great (and quite terrible) wines with these amazing people over the years!
I decided that one day I'll write the book and publish it in Sydney. It is truly fun reading, but only for me for now.
Cheers,
Attila
