2000 McWilliamÂ’s Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon

2000 McWilliamÂ’s Mount Pleasant Elizabeth Semillon:

The bottle I had on the weekend was broader than expected compared to other releases at this age, which is fine as it also had very well integrated acidity, but the flavours I found were most unusual. The base was quite creamy lemon with quite intense wool fat, (nearly bacon fat), being the dominating flavour with some smokiness. It was as if the wine had seen some charry oak. I still found the wine enjoyable (no comments on my tastes please) but most unusual.

I would really appreciate some feedback on this wine from those who have tasted it, and whether anyone else has had this experience with this wine.

Kind regards,
Adair

I think it says it perfectly. Easy to imagine both taste and texture. Only had a similar flavour and mouthfeel from Chardonnay (without the lemon).

Either have I, but there are many uses for wool fat / lanolin and I think most people would have smelt it at some time in their lives.
