TN: 1994 Reynell Basket Pressed Merlot

Post by n4sir »

1994 Reynell Basket Pressed Merlot, McLaren Vale (cork): Medium to dark, slightly murky garnet/red. Still as freaky, exotic and complex as when I last tried this wine about ten years ago, juicy strawberries and sweet plum, dusty, spicy lemony/cedar oak, chocolate and pencil shavings, peppermint, grated ginger and forest floor. The palate’s medium-weight opening with a bang of sweet sarsaparilla and currants, finising dry and minerally at first but fleshing out with breathing, some fruitcake and liquorice appearing with soupy/meaty characters. Still an amazing wine - I will gladly drink this f***ing merlot anyday.

Spot on Ian. A freak of a wine. I have one left.
