TN: 1996 Orlando Jacobs Creek Limited Release

Post by n4sir »

1996 Orlando Jacobs Creek Limited Release Shiraz Cabernet, South Australia (cork): 14% alc. A blend of Barossa Valley Shiraz matured in American oak 21 months & Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French oak 19 months, a multiple trophy winner at the Sydney & Adelaide wine shows. Strong medium to dark red. Tarry and ripe with lavish mocha oak and strong Coonawarra influences of blackcurrant, earth and mint; the palate’s medium-full weight, surprisingly not as weighty as the 1998 from memory, but the length and balance of fruit and fine oak can’t be faulted. I was impressed but not blown away, although more breathing time and a less public tasting may have been a better experience.
