2013 Hanging Rock Winery Heathcote Shiraz (screwcap): 14.5% alc. Very dark to almost inky purple with long legs on the glass. Sweet plum, black jubes, black pepper and graphite backed by subtle, spicy oak and subtle characters of black tea and liquorice; the palate’s surprisingly just over medium-weight, with drying, gravelly tannins on the finish and some minty alcohol warmth. I was expecting a bit more weight considering the ripeness; on this form it looks like a relatively short term prospect for the label, say to seven years.
Cheers,
Ian
