HKWS La Grande Rue Monopole Grand Cru / Lamarche Dinner

Post by JamieBahrain »

HKWS Tasting on 4 Feb 2016, Above and Beyond Chinese Restaurant, Hotel ICON

The following is the final list of the wines for the Lamarche dinner on 4 Feb at Hotel ICON. As you can see, the highlight of the evening will be the La Grande Rues, which should give you a good feel of the evolution of the wines made by François Lamarche and Nicole Lamarche over the time. At the tasting, if you can guess the La Grande Rues and their vantages correctly, I would be happy to give away a bottle of Premier Cru Lamarche as prize! I shall look forward to seeing you on the 4th at ICON.

Vosne Romanee Village 2002
Vosne Romanee Village 2009
Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru 2005

Great dinner and an amusing contrast I came from a union meeting to dinner which doesn't quite put you in a cerebral nor emotional Burgundy frame of mind!

I don't have time to write up notes here but will on any wines in the line-up for those interested.

The Group's WOTN for the group was a mere village Vosne Romanee 2002! It was excellent and I felt a great wine though lacked intensity around the frame.

My top three- 2011 La Grande Rue which displayed a beautiful intensity and decadent red Burgundy aromas and flavors. 94pts+

2008 Echezeaux which was another testament to my love of 08 Burgundy. 93pts and drinking well now with some gamey development amongst it's youth. 93pts+

1999 La Grande Rue which I felt was the essence of Burgundy. 93pts

2005 La Grande Rue was corked and pouring $700AUD wines down the sink is too regular and I wish my friends would command a refund! I do.

2008 & 2009 Echezeaux were my goto wines with dinner as plenty left and they opened up delightfully.

Very noble neighbors to La Grande Rue.

2008 is a bit of a mixed bag, what characteristics are you attributing to the vintage as a whole that make you favour it?

Well chosen they are delivering now with emerging development and have the stuffing to go further. Living in the shadow of 09 of course.
