Forum Changes in the Planning

Post by Gavin Trott »

More changes in the offing.

The auswine forum has a few sections that seem superfluous, basically unused.

Food and Wine - basically unused since middle of last year

Who Am I - as above.

Will be removing, or re 'badging' both of these.

Even Australian Viticulture Forum and Australian Wine Making Forum, both I set up for free use by the industry, or interested amateurs, are rarely used/seem rarely used, and so I am also considering changing deleting these?

Looking to streamline and balance the forums here, and indeed, to create a couple of new 'specialist areas', all in the thinking considering planning stage.

Feedback welcome, as ever.

.
regards

I agree with Sean, mainly in the fact that one single forum would make things simpler and everything would be more likely to get noticed.

You could have an extra sticky at the top with general forum rules and terminology and get people to use prefixes for non general wine related posts.

NWR (not wine related)
Food - (yep)
etc

end of the day, there's not so many new threads that it would ever get out of control, so just consolidating everything into one master uberthread would be my call.

But then again, maybe no harm in keeping the winemaking/industry technical thread.... could be useful for a few amateur/aspiring winemakers as well as the occasional professional without having to search through the main forum?

Better get a gif which spins the other way for when you need to unwind too Gav... :-)

Planning to change one/create a new forum area for high quality spirits, for those amongst us, like me, who love fine

Gins
Scotch
Bourbon
Rum

And more.

For sure that is a fantastic idea. I love small batch gins from obscure places, seems so much leeway other than Juniper berries. As well as the other 3 spirits mentioned.

Thanks Gavin

Hi Gavin

You could have another forum (could be the "recommendations" forum) to have posts like:
Yarra Valley Accommodation
Yarra Valley Cellar Doors
Yarra Valley Eateries
Brisbane BYO Restaurants
New York Wine Bars

etc

Just an idea as I am often searching for those threads on the main forum. Or people can just learn to search better!

Cheers

I can certainly see the merit of having everything in one forum in terms of not missing things. It doesn't bother me though, as I read everything via RSS, so all the forums get combined into a single view and it tracks what I've read across multiple devices.

On the other hand, I can also see merit for splitting it up so things are more organised. For example, there could be separate forums for offlines, travel, beer & spirits, etc. This would be my preference.

This forum is/will be fantastic however the forums are grouped, so I'm happy with whatever Gavin decides to do.

My 2c - I think the 'Right what are you drinking right now' thread needs its own section.
Also, would be easier to navigate if the last comment on a thread was first on the page rather than the other way around.

Gavin

Thanks for all your work of this. I am fine with a simple uncomplicated one shop bucket. I find it quite easy just to eyeball the 'All About Wine' or search within the one tab.
