Off-site storage costs / Melbourne

Post by Ozzie W »

Hi everyone,

For those with off-site storage in Melbourne, I'm wondering which company you use and how much you're paying?

I pre-paid for 6 months of storage at Kennards Huntingdale at $38/month for a full-height (mini) locker. I've got 2 lockers, which will probably hold around 500 bottles the way I've got them arranged. At the time, they also had a special offer so I also got 6 months storage included for free.

I was shocked to see on their website today that the price has gone up to $123.50/month (from $38/month). That's a huge price increase and then some! MIght need to rethink my off-site storage options.

Maybe that new price reflects the 6 months free offer. The average being around $60 per month. Otherwise it's rather strange....

I use Mcphees. Have done for years. Good price. Good service.

Another vote for McPhees...I found their price to be significantly lower than elsewhere and they are brilliant people to deal with. I love the online cataloguing too. I don't have a locker though, just generally storage

The price has been at $38/month ($40/month with 5% discount for 6 month pre-payment) since at least February 2014 when I first looked into off-site storage options. The 6 months free offer was a once-off Halliday special that was never advertised on their website. I'm not sure when the price went up to $130/month.

Thanks via collins and TommyB. I'll take a look at McPhees.

Ozzie I'm at Huntindale too - have 2 of the same lockers paying $60/month for both, but didn't get 6 months free. We should crack open a bottle there sometime - seems we've got a lot of the same wines too!

As it turns out, things aren't quite as they seem. I spoke to Huntingdale Kennards this afternoon and the website is misleading. They're sold out of "mini" lockers, so the price shown is for the next size up.

Great idea toofastdriving! And funny you should say that. Dane was telling me today that one day a large bunch of people just happened all to be in the cellar at the same time and they had an impromptu tasting session and wine swap.

An offline at the offsite. I'm up for that.
