Safeway (Woolworths) & cork taint

Post by RedRay »

Thought you might be interested in this experience. At various times I have purchased a number of bottles 1994, 1997, 1998 Wynns Michael Shiraz (and other hi end wines) from my local Safeway Store...(read Woolies for non Vics). I opened a '94 last Saturday to find it absoluely undrinkable. Very dissapointing. Opened another which was fine.

I immediately recorked the dud bottle and took it back. I explained the problem and they replaced the bottle with another '94 (they still had stock). There was no fuss or bother and they did it with a smile. One happy (return) Customer!!!!!!!!

Thanks Safeway!

(Note I have no financial interest in Woolwoths and am a customer only!) :D
Best Regards

Ray.

Good that they replace it without any problems but I have one concern about this sort of situation.

In my local Mac's (Woollies bottl'o) they have a number of older vintages of wine. A good example is the 94 Orlando Centenary. They have been sitting in a locked glass front cupboard for years. And the storage conditions in the store may be constant during the day, but not exactly great for long term storage.

Hi Ric,

You make an excellent point. In this case I have been a regular browser for many years and these were not "regular" stock. The '94 was only just recently put on the shelves and there were 6 still in their original paper wrappers that were also in excelent condition. I was therefore prepared to take a punt.

But they were standing up!...Lucky I got then early!!!!!!

best regards
