Cleanskins: Can we provide a comprehensive review?

Post by Anonymous »

I bought my first case of cleanskins this week and have been amazed at the value. I have tasted terrible ones in the past, but nothing worth investing in (drinking only :D ).

Here is a tasting note for a cleanskin from Boccaccio Cellars:

Unlabelled Clare Valley 'The Twin' Shiraz Cabernet 2001: Medium bodied with purple hue, aromas of dark-currants and blackberry, hints of liquorice on the palate (hot season I gather), a little tad short on the finish, but otherwise very agreeable. Especially for $6.

I also bought the "At Odds" shiraz, but haven't opened a bottle yet.

Can anyone else provide some tasting notes on cleanskins available at the moment?

I bought a couple of excellent cleanskins from this site a few months back. Every time I open one or show it to friends we're stunned at the value. Real $25 quality at half the price. I think they weren't made as cleanskins but were full commercial productions that just didn't get labelled, there is a difference.

Might pay to ask Gavin (Auswine site owner) if he's still got any of these two available.

Cheers, Greg

Yeah, Gavin has some great cleans skins - my favourite of the two is the 2002 Adelaide Plains Shiraz - so far I have guzzled my way through about 2 cases (not by myself of course  ) - and all friends and family who try this are amazed at how full bodied, silky and lush it is for the price and end up getting a case as well.

The notes from the original tasting are here:

Hello

All mine are still available, and the two Shiraz especially are drinking even better now!

That said, these are not $6 cleanskins, but actual $25 wines selling at about half price, unlabelled. ($144 and $150 per case delivered)
regards
