I couldn't bear the thought of my wine tasting like poo so I had to open a bottle for dinner two nights ago.
No poo here, I think someone has taken a bit of licence. Plenty of savoury and cherry flavours, fine tannins, ruby red colour with typical Yarra clean finish. Would not have more than 4 years left in it so not a stayer. Left some overnight to test it, the fruit dropped away very quickly and the tannins were weak, flavour was more savoury but depth at this point, definitely a wine to enjoy the first night.
I tasted the 2001 One Eye Shiraz at the cellar door which had been decanted for some time and it was a stunner. Magnificent tannins and spicy fruit that hung in the mouth for a good while, fantastic concentration and strength without being massively overpowering, a very regional wine. It gets mixed reactions in the write ups but I couldn't fault the glass I had. I will be very interested to see how goes over the next 10 years which it should make easily.
