TN: 2001 Turkey Flat Cab Sav

Post by markg »

A wonderfully nose of undergrowth, forest floor and black fruits. A beautifully structured wine with earthy undertones, silky, mouthfilling layers of blackfruits, coffee and dark chocolate finishing with great length and fruit sweetness. Fantastic to drink now but will improve over the next 5 to 10 years.

Couldn't have said it better, stunning wine.

Hard to sell though, the Shiraz is running out the door, the Cabernet trickling.

That said, 6 of each would make a great case of wine!

Agreed, but the problem is the fact that it comes from the Barossa and right now you can not give away Barossa Cabernet.

FWIW, when I got home from my SA trip, one of the first wines I bought was the Turkey 01 Cabernet. The word I used to describe it was "sensational." :P

Anyone who overlooks this because it is a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa does not know what they are missing and how good a Barossa Cabernet can be. It is not a "nice big red" - it is has true Cab varietal characters.

Buy a dozen and make Gavin day. And 12 of your own when you open them. :D
Cheers

I've got nothing against Barossa Cab Sav, but for some reason I really didn't think much of this wine in the Turkey Flat line up I tried a few weeks ago. It did follow the 2002 Shiraz which didn't help its cause.

The 1996 is drinking very nicely, and showed well in last nights Black Tongues Class of '96 Cabernet taste-off - look for the notes in a few days time.
