Deceased Estate Cellar Consulting

Hello all,

A neighbour asked me while watching the Wallabies on Saturday night if I knew anyone who consults on private cellars, what needs to be drunk, sold and or moved on. Back story is his father in law has passed away and there is an extensive cellar, I have been told in the past of "boxes on top of boxes" of grange. Given the individual's back ground I have little doubt of the extent of the cellar and I believe the family just want advice which they are happy to pay for. There was a similar situation within the family in the past when someone was ill for a long time, no body dealt with his collection and apparently there was significant loss by time the cellar was dealt with (10 years or so later).

I would love to get in there myself of course!

I have thought of a few names but if anyone knows of people who consult in such matters then I would be grateful for the information. The cellar is in Sydney.

Justin, we have Wickham's auctions here in Adelaide. Mark is a regular poster on the forum.

Without stepping on any toes, I am sure if you got in touch he would be able to assist.
Whilst the loss of a family member is always distressing, wish I had a cellar full of booty to consider rather than sheds full of old useless junk.

I second Craig....Mark will be more than capable of helping with your current situation. The other option is having a garage sale and inviting all the forumites

But if you're looking for something less 'auction style' I can certainly recommend Magnus McManamey. He's an ex-sommelier now private wine broker who tends to predominantly deal with the valuation and sale private cellars.

He has a mailing list which details cellars contents and the price per bottle as they are being sold as opposed to the wines being sold auction style. Provenance of the sold wines has been second to none. PM me if you want his contact details.
