Was it actually mentioned here what they were doing in Sydney?? Released a week or two ago. Not impressed, a cynical build-it-up and screw-em-for money scenario that reeks of corporate greed IMHO.
EDIT : Hang on not just Sydney of course, now I'm confused... what about the $120 mentioned elsewhere in this thread?? Early release, subsequently changed??
**Experience Classification VI at the tasting event of the year***
The first Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine was launched 25 years ago in 1989 and featured 34 wines: the 34 most traded through Langton’s Wine Auctions. Classifications II, III and IV followed and each issue reflected the growing maturity of the secondary wine market in Australia. By 2010 when Classification V was released, it had evolved to include 123 wines and the Langton’s Classification enjoyed worldwide notoriety as the ultimate reference point for the very finest in Australian wine.
So it is with a keen sense of history and occasion that we are pleased to announce that the evolution continues; Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine VI will be unveiled this year on 1st May at Australia’s premier culinary event, Tasting Australia in Adelaide. We don’t want to spoil the surprise but it’s our biggest yet with some exciting changes and additions. To further celebrate the launch, we will be embarking on a national tour, bringing the wines and the winemakers of Classification VI to Brisbane(14th May), Sydney( 15th May), Melbourne(16th May) and Perth(25th June) with a series of tasting events. This year we are offering two different ticket packages for each event;
The Ultimate Classification Experience & The Classic Classification Experience
The Ultimate Classification Experience
This year, the pinnacle of the Classification, the ‘Exceptional’ wines, will feature in their own exclusive tasting room and your Ultimate Classification ticket will gain you admission. These are the most highly sought-after wines on the market today; the ‘First Growths’ of Australian wine, including the iconic wines from Penfolds, Henschke, Chris Ringland, Moss Wood and Rockford just to name a few. In addition to the Exceptional tasting room, your Ultimate Classification ticket also gives you access to over 100 wines on tasting that make up the balance of the Classification. Ticket price: $250 per person.
The Classic Classification Experience
Your Classic Classification ticket will give you the opportunity to taste over 100 wines that make up the remaining categories and feature the ‘Second Growths’ and ‘Third Growths’ of Australian wine. These are all high performing wines of exquisite quality with a solid to very strong market following and include wines from producers like Bass Phillip, Bannockburn, Grosset, Lake’s Folly, Wolf Blass and many more.Ticket price: $85 per person.
Felt like a sucked in idiot, but still bought a ticket to the $85 event, as there are plenty of producers I never got to at previous events.
So $40 for the first one, all wines inc HOG, Grange etc on tasting. $99 for the second one, better space, bit of food, all wines inc HOG, Grange on tasting.
Then $250 for the third one if you want to taste the so-called 'Exceptional' stuff. Ah well, quite possibly it was the like of Penfolds, Henschke, Ringland etc that wanted extra fees for offering their top wines.
Cheers
