Hunter Valley Adventure

Post by kc »

Hi all ye wise ones,

I got a pal who just hit Hunter Valley and been through a few wineries. What is the low down on these wineries: Iron Gate Estate, Mistletoe, Rothbury, McGuigan.

Particularly, he bought this McGuigan Personal Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 and wants to know what is the TN...Any of ya tasted it?

Thanks!

My quick thoughts are:
Iron Gate Estate - I have not been there but have been told by people in the know that they are doing some unique things with Hunter grapes.

Mistetoe - their unfermented Semillon juice was the highly for me the last time I visted.

Rothbury - could find some treasures here.

McGuigan - I am told that some of their top wines, like the one you mention, are excellent but I refuse to go back to their cellar door as it is a cross between a supermarket check-out and a horses' stable.
