After the disappointment with the 2002 Ingolby Shiraz thought 'd give this a try as I have been pretty impressed with what Nigel Dolan has been doing at Saltram.
Glass staining red purple colour. Lots of blackberry and plums with some vanillan oak but not overdone. Very fruit dominated. Palate follows the nose, rich and dense but unlike the Ingolby lovely acid cut, good balance and quite a long finish. Just as importantly the alcohol (15% - but I'd bet it is more ) doesn't poke out or burn. I have a feeling it was unfiltered or only lightly filtered as this morning I noticed grape residual in bottm of bottle and glasses. No complexity yet, maybe for me a bit too fruit sweet yet the acid really helps to keep it together. Far better proposition than the Ingolby. maybe not my style but as CC would say - excellent for what it is - bought for $15.99
