Re: TN: with dinner - Two Hands
Incidently, I had Two Hands Angels Share (McLaren shiraz, 14.8% alc), last night at a friends wedding reception. Its a voluptous Mclraen shiraz made in a style to please the crowds (which it did) with plush dark chocolate character and a touch of pepper and with no harsh edges. I tasted it blind bef...

Bick, Thank you for the response. I was thinking of getting together a few Cab Franc's for a comparitave tasting with some friends. The list you have supplied was way more than I was expecting ! I should be able to source a fair few of them. My memories of Chatsfield ( WA) was that it was an unwood...

I, too, would avoid 1997 Bordeaux, in general. Overpriced when it came out and underperforming. Lower ranked 1996 are currently drinking very well- such as Du Tertre , Haut Batailley . They are open for business. Other left bankers from 1996 that are a bit more expensive but will open up after a lon...

Neville, Giaconda chardonnay : Telling someone that Giaconda chardonnay is damn good is just stating the obvious. Our vertical (Rory's) amply proved that point. Giaconda shiraz: This is where the money is! I agree with you that the Giaconda shiraz in a short space of time has fostered many more frie...

Hi, Have you tried any of the the Montes Alpha " flagship " wines. There seems to a bit of that floating around at Dan Murphy's currently - the shiraz- labelled - " Folly " and The cab based wine " M " has been discounted by 50% (from the lofty price of approx $100). I have tasted them in the past i...

Oh and the Bin 6600 (00=Reserve) would be 40-50 at Auction the Bin 6603 (03=Standard bottling) would be worth a fair bit less. An even bigger bargain. GW Is it true the 6601 would be better than 6600 as it would be Show Reserve stock? thanks michel I haven't come accross a bottling of the show rese...

Hi, The 1995 is a top wine and has the structuure to age for a very long time. It will be an outstanding wine with another 10 years of bottle age and then it will be interesting to compare it or the 1996 with a similar vintage from Bordeaux. I agree that the wineyard some how lost the plot in 1997 a...

Adair, I must confess to have overlooked the 1990 vintage in hunter especially as far as Tyrells and Lindemans is concerned. Your notes suggest it fares better than expected. I did buy the lindemans Steven reserve and the HRB (std) at release from 1991. The HRB was underwhelming despite the vintage ...

Hi, I read uncorked early on Tuesday and was very disappointed- It should be re-labelled - CORKED . It is flat, uninspiring, exhibition of wares. I believe it has lost its focus. It clearly cannot decide whether to pitch at the quaffing level or top tier. Consequently, the results are a jumbled mixt...

Hi AJ, Your tasting notes on wines from the 2002 vintage that fascinated you would have been an ideal preamble to the sweeping statement that 2002 burgundies are Gods gift to mankind. Forumites here appreciate notes and discussion about the the wines rather than merely an stated opinion, i.e. the ba...

Hi, I agree Craiglee has been undervalued in the past. The price has gone up to $40 ($38 case) at CD. I don't know what proportion of their sales occur via CD/direct mailing compared to to distributor outlets. Thee are a very few that do alomot exclusive CD sales (MM, Giaconda) which help putting mo...

Hi, Looks like some of you rated the '84 much higher. One reason could have been bottle variation. The other may have been that the wine is not a keeper and hence may be going down hill quickly after exposure to air. Or a combinationof of both. I would favour the latter explanation. At any rate, the...

Thistle hill
Paul T,
I tasted a few Thistle Hill's in the 1990's but they did not appeal much. (cannot recollect specfically whether I tasted the 1996) However, the 1986 cab was magic. And when last tasted in 1998 had evolved beautifully with wonderful secondary characteristics.

Furkey Flat 2001
Hi, I am not entering into this debate. but going back on the original part of the thread I did find Rockford to be quite good at CD prices. What NOT to do with pinots in a good vintage.
Hi, I agree with Neville's comments. To add my 2 cents worth... The second bracket wines (i.e. no 4 to showed what one must not do with pinots in a ripe vintage. All the wines appeared to have very ripe fruit but had a distinct lack of acid structure to carry them through. The alcoholic heat was eas...
