Re: John riddoch vintages

Of the vintages going right back to 1982, which are the ones drinking well now? The only one I've tasted in the last few years is the '82, but there are a number of others from the 80's and 90's that I'm curious about. The first one I ever bought on release was the '03, and I haven't opened one of t...

Vale Mychurch - Our great friend, Cameron

It is with a very heavy heart that I bring sad news of the passing of our great friend and wine tasting buddy, Cameron (aka MyChurch). Cameron was involved in an horrific car accident over the weekend where there were multiple fatalities. For those of us here who were fortunate enough to meet and sp...

Re: Mudgee Wineries

The Robert Stein rieslings are generally pretty sound wines. There used to be a producer named Skimstone that were good at Italian varietals barbera and Sangiovese, and I believe they still exist. The Huntington Estate Reserve reds are quite good on the odd occasion I've tasted those.

Margaret River vintages

Thought I'd throw this one to the brains trust... Just seeking peoples thoughts on their experiences with Margaret River cabernet from say the last 25 vintages and what your thoughts are on the best vintages. Are any falling over, are any/many at peak? Which ones to leave in the cellar for longer, e...

Melbourne Tasting Group - Italian not Piedmont

Nine of us Melbournites convened at the rather fabulously inexpensive Chinese eatery in Richmond, known as the Pacific Seafood House one Saturday afternoon. The theme: Italian wines, but from (largely) outside Piedmont, or more specifically, not Nebbiolo. We ordered food as we went, judging what we ...

Vintages ending in "2"

Seven of us got together in Melbourne's inner west for a themed tasting where the vintage of the wine had to end in "2". Seventeen bottles in all, with quite sensibly a bit left undrunk, but, thankfully, very, very few faulty wines. We tasted in flights of two the following: 1. Cos Rami 20...

Hardy's are a feature when I look at the Accolade portfolio. Some wonderful heritage there, and some still quite good wines sold. Their Thomas Hardy Cabernet can be particularly good, and older vintages of VP definitely worth chasing.

Came across a rare bottle of Wynns John Riddock limited release from 1982, the first year it was made. It’s too good for me to open - what do I do with it? Label is damaged but it was stored wrapped in the original case If you decide to sell, have a look at Langtons.com.au, and see what they've bee...

Re: TN: Melbourne Group drinks some Champange

Thanks for the writeup, Cam. My notes were as follows: Starter: Dom Perignon 2012 - Faintly golden straw colour. Beautiful depth and toasty richness to the nose with sweet biscuit/brioche notes. Excellent depth of flavour with confident acidity giving good length. Bracket 1: Champagne Veuve Monsigny...

Re: Need help on Petersons bottle

If it's fruit off their vineyard up on Mount View Road, then all I can say is those are quite good vineyards, and fruit quality can be excellent up there. The soil is gorgeous rich dark red loam. '14 was a very good year for the region, so there's that working in it's favour. I would not hesitate to...

Re: Storing Wine: Bought my first Wine Fridge

I've pondered turning off my Leibherr's and just letting them sit ambient during the cooler half of the year, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad for the fridge itself. If my wine stays below, say 18-20 degrees across winter, I'd be relatively comfortable with that. No direct sunlight to speak of...

Re: So what wines are on the Xmas menu this year?

A fairly simple selection for us to see us through the day: Seppelt OSS 1995 (loved this) Lanson Vintage 2008 (big wine that needs time) Simonnet Febvre Petit Chablis 2022 (not bad) Orlando Jacaranda Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 (amazing bottle) Tyrrell's Futures Selection Shiraz 1985 (quite mature...

My notes (late as usual!): Eva Fricke Lorch (off dry) Riesling 2014 - Magnum 11.5% alcohol off-dry style. A lovely wine, with faint floral aromas over wild-apple. On the palate there's a wonderful underripe green grape vibrancy; juicy with a pithy texture on the finish. So beautifully flavoured and ...

Yeah, I found I could no longer click to enlarge pictures of lots that had gone into my "second chance" category, so I couldn't make a visual inspection of the quality of the lot to know whether it was a lot I wanted to purchase. Surely they're going to make improvements over time.

I recently got an '03 Patrick & Christophe Bonnefond Les Rochins Cote-Rotie at auction. Just a random pickup based solely on the vintage. I have no idea whether to drink or hold. No real clue about the producer or vintage other than it might have been a hot year.

Yeah, Seppelt are generally always a joy to drink. I've dabbled for years around late 90's and early 00's with shiraz from this producer. Nearly never miss. I think that whoever is selling the three bottles currently on Langtons deserves the right for them to be offered/sold fairly through the auction channel, and not somehow funneled to you to replace your lost/broken ones. It's unfortunate for you, but I guess take the refund and move on.
