I love it even more when I find a 'specialist' wine store that does the same thing.

And thanks, JamieBahrain – I'll keep an eye out for the bubbles

Any duty free gurus out there?

I have to go to Bahrain for work next weekend and will be stopping in Dubai and Singapore along the way. Can anyone who knows those airports better than I do tell me whether any of them are likely to offer good value on duty free wines?

The Vieux Telegraphe popped up at a CdP tasting last night and was my pick of the whole evening. I think the guys at Europa (who hosted the tasting) decant the wines a couple of hours prior to letting everyone loose on them, so maybe it had opened up a bit more than Dave D's bottle. I'm still quite ...

Agreed. In relative terms I probably earn roughly what my father did when he was my age, yet he was able to buy a half case of Grange in the early 1970s. If I tried to do that now, I wouldn't be able to eat for two months.

Unbelievable

I found this being discussed on one of the overseas forums:

(The page takes a minute or so to load)

Sounds like a lesson to Australian retailers – why bother trying to offer good service, good advice and good prices when you can just be like this guy instead?

I did the one at The Wine Society in Bourke St and thought it was pretty good. I'm not sure whether they have any more coming up this year though.

I'm still too early in my personal wine journey to be an expert on anything, but I went to the Heathcote Wine & Food Festival on the weekend to check the wines out and was largely underwhelmed by what I found. There were one or two exceptions, with the standout being the 2003 shiraz from Heathco...

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I've never heard of the Masi Corbec before but it sounds like I'll have to add it to my long list of things to look out for.

Cellaring Amarone

Hi there. I've been lurking on the forum for a little while but an experience at a tasting a few days ago has prompted me to 'cross over' and post something, even though it is only a question. For the first time, I had a chance to try an Amarone (2000 Masi Costasera Amarone Classico DOC) and it was ...
