Houghtons Jack Mann Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Cedar and blackcurrant on the nose, Fine tannins, oak obvious, but the fruit is strong too. Some class in this wine. Less elegant than the Woodlands 2002, but still a good wine. Will last a while, but not sure if the oak will stick out more. Picked up for $63 at a bottle shop in Newman - best price ...

Sounds like a cheap way to have some Grange and be able to send it back if the bottle is not sound. Which restaurant is this?

I have had the 07 and while it is probably not the best Pierro Chard it is still very very good and for my taste much better than the Art series from Leeuwin. The complexity and full flavour is all there and it is a fine drink. I am hoping it will develop further over the next 10 years as many other...

My current sub $20 favourites are Kalleske Clarrys Red 2007 and the 2006 Tim Adams the Fergus - along with the Mike press range. But in general go to some tastings either at stores or organised by associations, or have a holiday in a wine region. THis way you get to taste alot more before you buy.

Vietnam Wines

I am heading up for a Honeymoon in Vietnam, staying at Evason Hideaway Ninh Van Bay for 4 nights, that looks like it has a pretty good wine cellar (god knows at what prices though). Also spending time in Hoi An and Saigon/HCMC. What can I expect in terms of wine over there? I would guess plenty of f...

Also had a minor cascade from not having the mesh securely tensioned. Fixed with turnbuckles with hooks. Do not underestimate the pressure 300 bottles of wine will put in an outward direction. Having said that it is a great system costing around $300 per 400 bottles in materials.

2003 Mitchelton Print Shiraz. Quite a rich wine with plum on the nose and blackberry and plum on the palate. Nice fine tannins and a luxurious mouthfeel, all in all a very smart wine worth the money

The Relic and the Johann were 06 and had more elegance, but still plenty of Barossa fruit - they will both last the distance. The Standish was '05 so a much bigger wine, but not overripe, all very good balance and structure. All Excellent and while expensive represent fair value in the super premium...

Artisans OF Barossa Tasting WA

Went to this on Sat arvo. Great that so many of the tables had the winemakers on them to discuss their wines. Lots of good wines and some very passionate people. General comments were that the 06's are looking much more elegant than the 05's but good wines amongst both of them. The two standish wine...

I had a '96 Cullen Cab Merlot on the weekend at the winery, and it was stunning, tannins fully integrated, still plenty of fruit - perfect balance and really enjoyable. Would go another 5-10 easy I reckon.

Nope. Don't agree. When you buy a wine like Noon's (or Wendouree) and when you do so, if you intend to on-sell them at a profit, you are doing exactly the same as meeting Drew Noon (or the Bradys) face to face and saying that you love their wines and will drink them, yet you know you are lying and ...

I think Noon's are in the Wine business and set a price they are happy to receive for their product. If they sold it to a person then they have every right to on sell it. If Noon's know about it and don't want to sell it to the same person the next year then that is also their perogative. I think th...

The argument that BYO does not meet the required margins is completely flawed. In actual fact the margin that you make on your average wine is what would be a perfectly sound business model for corkage. If you took into account the costs of storing the wine and getting replacements for corked wines,...

Sandalford Shiraz 2004 - Margaret river fruit. This shiraz is probably the best WA shiraz I have tried for a while. Peppery nose with good fruit int he berry/plum spectrum. Blackberry and plum on the palette with firm tannins and oak in good balance - 94 pts, well worth a look around $33/bottle
