Re: Lunch with Muscat Mike and Jafa
Craig thank you for the most enjoyable day. Great food, great companions and superb wines. Not one dud. All but 2 had corks and they came out well. As usual your notes are right on the money and yes, you have convinced me, NZ wines are right up there in the top echelon of wines. I also had the Elsto...

Re: Rolf Binder 2006 Heysen.
I am glad that those who took my advice and bought this wine found it worthwhile. I did not give the price because this is Gavin's forum. As they are now all sold I can let you, who did not buy, know the bargain price. $200 per case of 12. Works out to about $16.66 per beautiful bottle of wine, plus...

Re: Rolf Binder 2006 Heysen.
Well I went ahead and bought some and all I can say is WOW . It took time to open up but when it did the wine was bloody fabulous. Dark, inky purple and smooth as a baby's bottom. Has not yet reached its peak and will last another 8-10 years. For the price I paid, my bargain not of the year but of t...

Has anyone tried this lately? I have had some offered to me at a ridiculously low price and was wondering how it is going. Ready to drink, in the window or OTH?

Hi Michael, I used to use a lot of data loggers when I was selling vaccines to monitor the fridges. I found a Company called Hastings Data Loggers. Just Google them to get details. They were very reasonable and you could set the time between taking temperatures very easily. Very reliable loggers. Mi...

a few more dot balls converted and a more normal last 5 overs from nz's usually dependable lower middle order and we woulda been in for a real scrap. At 192-4 we were looking like posting something competetive closer game than the scorecard indicates though...runs hard to come by a pass mark for NZ...

Need help with SBs.
I am not big on SBs and would like some advice please. My daughter wants to buy a friend who helped her a nice SB because that is their preferred wine. I have sourced some names from a local wine store. Please suggest which would be best for her to purchase. Craggy Range - Avery or Te Muna Road Phi ...

Re: 1989 Grange drinking well, nice surprise
This was the last vintage of Grange I ever bought. From memory I paid about $90/bottle for two six packs. As you all know the price climbed astronomically after the 1990 hit the market. I must say I enjoyed the bottles I had.

Re: Why Stelvin Can Be a Problem...
Sometimes I decant a bottle at home into another bottle, informing the participants that this was done. Thus they have absolutely no idea what sort of bottle it came from. Decanting into a Stelvin bottle is best as it is the easiest to carry.

Corked Wynns Black Lable.
Actually 2nd. last because it was corked. That is now two in a row for '96 Wynns Black Lable. This one did not stink like the previous one and the cork itself seemed OK, BUT, there was a slightly unpleasant odour when swirling the glass and virtually no fruit to taste at all. Very disappointing. I s...

Hi Craig et al, sorry about that. I had not gone into orbit. They have not built a space craft big enough to carry me, as yet. Re: Auckland Offline - Date TBC - Cream of Cults and Classic
If an interloper could possibly join in I am interested, depending on date chosen. If an Aussie wine may be permitted to be included I still have an '86 John Riddoch and a '91 Wynns Centenary I could put on the sacrificial table. Mike. PS - Craig I have an old Cloudy Bay SB but not sure how good it ...

Thank you Sparky and Wynns.
I recently opened a bottle of 1996 Wynns Black Lable. Immediately a foul smell hit my olfactory senses. Bloody corked bottle I muttered to myself. I was really looking forward to it as I had not opened one in more than 6 months. This was my first bad bottle out of 6. Luckily I still have 6 more. Ne...

Nothing older in the cellar than early '90's unfortunately.. BUT Tasted both '51 & '52 Grange in the company of John Bird and Don Ditter, which was an incredibly privileged moment I'll be remembering for a while. The Saltram 1959 Vintage Rare Tawny will also linger on my taste buds longer than ...

Thanks VC. It might be an untapped market. I mean groups get stubby holders made, there could be a new demand for port sippers? A little more gentrified than the old Bundy and Coke. Cheers I reckon these blokes are more likely to drink the VP straight from the bottle than a Port Sipper. Mike.

Devils Lair 2002 Cab/Merlot
Opened a Magnum of this and poured into glasses, had no decanter available. Tasted after 1/2 hour still closed. An hour later it had opened into a delicous mouthful which just got better over the evening. Fruit dominant with lovely but gentle tannins, no obvious oak. An excellent wine that has many...
