For some hard to get wines go to the Barrique wine store main street, Healseville. For appointment only, I had a great expirience at Hillcrest recently....

Put simply screwcaps provide a tighter seal than corks and therefor encourages a reductive environment. Sulpher compounds are readily produced under reductive conditions. Hence...

Just one wine for me this week. 2001 Paul Jaboulet Aine Parallel 45 Cotes Du Rhone Not a bad CDR, light to medium bodied in style quite a simple nose of red berries, currents and a healthy dash of white pepper. Palate was rather dilute but some savoury fruits did pop there heads up mid palate, tanni...

Jansz NV[b] Ullage level was quite big due to a leaky cork and subsequently the wine had lost a few atmospheres of pressure. Base wine was quite nice with some yeasty autolysis characters nothing to complex but quite pleasent. Always one of my favourite NV Aussie sparklers. [b]2005 Two Hands Brilli...

2000 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz I was quite suprised by this I guess I was expecting more raisined stressed fruit charcters form this difficult vintage. From the first pour into the decanter a beautiful fragrance of blackberries and blackcurrents filled the air. By the time it was in the glas...

Bremerton 2002 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Drinking this wine as I write, definitely not varietal but what it lacks in elegance and charm it certainly makes up for in raw power. Sweet vibrant cassis on the nose backed up by freshly polished leather and a healthy lick of spicy vanillian oak thanks to...
