Yes, I've had it several times, including pre-release samples. The 2004 is better.

JO gives a score of 17.5 and drinking window of 2005 -2010. So a reasonable wine but not as good as all the other vintages around it. His 2007 wine annual gives it 91 points and a drinking window of 2005-2009. I think that Cliff Royle wasn't the winemaker there in 2007 so not sure how similar the 9...

Thanks for the notes. I remember talking to Corrina at a wine tasting where she said that 99 was an extremely difficult vintage in McLaren Vale and 2000 was a big improvement for them. I bought the wines for a couple years and then they sort of fell off my radar. Not sure why. Will keep an eye out f...

Interesting too that you can pick up lots of wine cheaper at auction than what they sell for at cellar door. Or from retailers. Irritates me sometimes to see the prices I could buy the wines for now at auction away from the newsletter hype.

I've seen the same thing happen at a restaurant in Griffith, but not to me. I did have the same thing happen at a three hat restaurant in Sydney where I spied the staff sampling our wines. Chateau Branaire-Ducru, 1996, Bordeaux, France. Decanted in restaurant for about 20 mins before drinking. Deep and dark with only slight hints of aging on the rim. Absolutely singing on the night from the first small and sip but evolved throughout the night. Nose of deep cassis and leather with a w...

2004 Sorrenberg Semillon (Beechworth) Dry, slatey, minerally, chalky, creamy, buttery and malo-influenced. Very Chablis like. A worked style. I quite liked it! 86 / 100 2000 Viking Grand Shiraz (Barossa Valley) 14%. Very polarising bouquet of iodine, band aids, intense cassis, spicy pastilles, boot...

Out to the visually stunning Voyager Estate . Appealing Dutch Cape architecture, gardens manicured to within an inch of their lives, and one hell of an Aussie flag fluttering in the breeze. After fighting my way through a batallion fancy condiments and tea towels I finally found the Cellar Door. Be...

I visited Woodlands recently and was very impressed with the wines. They had a richness and power I found lacking in many other MR producers. The 03 Margaret is released now and I picked up a six pack for $30 per bottle. Great wine, and very fairly priced in my opinion. The $20 04 Cab Merlot was als...

I tasted several 2002 Coonawarra wines at cellar doors recently, and the cabs in particular often had a capsicum (green) note to them. I'm not a fan of this profile, so I'm treading carefully here in this vintage. Totally agree - I found the same thing with many of the 02 Coonawarra cabs I tried at...

I actually think that most of the matches look very good, I think the only odd one out is the old block with a tomato salsa based ditch. Stuart, impressive method, you aren't an engineer per chance?

I usually use 707s method. However, I have to do that right after opening the bottle otherwise the bottle tends to empty itself as the night goes on. I admire your restraint.

Max, it is a favourite so why not try it again? The 2002 is as good as any Eclipse so far so grab any you can. The best value at auction is the 2000 which drinks really well now but suffers from the perception that 2000 is an "off" vintage. I know it's a current favourite of Drew Noon. Ian, I left ...
