Re: Kitchener wine frides

I have a 284 Peltier which is a little over 6 years old now and it has been fantastic. The fan burnt out a year or so ago and for $70 they posted me a new one along with a mobile number and I was talked through replacing it in less than 10 minutes. Great unit. That said it is pretty ugly, I have it ...

Re: Melbourne Offline (French Theme); Saturday, July 23

Hi Guys
I don't post much these days but browse by for a read every week or two and I'm interested in meeting other wine lovers in real life. Unfortunately this weekend is no good but I'm certainly interested in future events.

Trip to Central Otago

Hi guys I'm heading to Queenstown next week for a wedding and I've managed to put aside a day to get up to the wineries around Cromwell. I've put Mt Difficulty, Felton Rd & Carrick on the visit list but I can easily fit in 2 more and wondered if there were any DO NOT MISS places I haven't covere...

Hi GB I also bought a couple of bottles of this on the basis of the tasting note from Nicks that Brian quoted. I opened one with a friend and we both noticed a strong menthol charachter which quickly became unpleasantly medicinal. I opened the second bottle which showed identically. The next day the...

First visit to the Hunter

Hi all I'm heading up to the Outrigger resort at Ettalong beach for a few days R&R straight after new year and I plan on spending a day in the Hunter. As this will be my first visit to the region I'm looking for any recommendations on not to be missed cellar doors and also a lunch venue. Somethi...

I was down there for a day earlier this year and posted this to alt.food.wine on April 3 in response to a thread about Marinda Park Pinot. Hi Matt (and others ) I went down to the MP on Saturday and popped into Marinda park to try the rest of their range. I was a little underwhelmed by most of what ...

6 Wines that define Australia

Interesting article in the Melbourne Age today by Jeni Port at http://www.theage.com.au/news/epicure/a ... 51944.html.

I find it hard to argue against any of these selections, though I know there are plenty on this group who will. :D

Cheers Andrew

I ate at the botanical in Melbourne recently and one of the trademark dishes is squid & chorizo cooked in the wood fired oven (with some smoked paprika in the sauce as well) We had a bottle of Castagna Genesis and it was very good with the dish. Much better than I expected it to be, so the Shira...

Re: Wines to cellar for a 21st

My godson was born in 2002 and I would like to buy some 2002 vintage wines to cellar until he is 21. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea which wines will last that long and I am hoping that some kind souls will be able to suggest some nice wines (preferably Australian) that will last for > 20 y...

I just had a look at the site and the RWT 2001 is in the Fuller bodied dry reds category I wonder why the 02 wasn't?

Wow I just had a look at Vintage Direct (Nicks Wine Merchant site) and they have it for sale at $120. Pity the poor sucker who buys it there.

I've been a bit crook this week so the choice was limited to only a couple of contenders. I split a box of Torbreck 2002 The Steading with a mate and pulled the top off a bottle to see where its at. TN:Mitolo Savitar McLaren Vale Shiraz 2001

I was pretty impressed when I had this wine on my trip to McLaren Vale last year and when the wine society was running stocks out at the Bourke St Cellars for $48 (from memory it was around $70) I grabbed half a dozen. This is an outstanding wine. Very dark purple crimsony colour. Smoky toasted nose...

The YQuem '99 happened to came from their worst vintage in 2 decades where there's hardly any botrytis infection. A decent Sauternes but not a good representive of YQuem. Hi anon I think you must be thinking of a different vintage, this wine absolutely reeks of botrytis. It is also completely at od...

I've seen a lot of mention of the Seppelt sherries being great qpr. If I were to get a bottle just to have a small glass at the hotel room before and/or after dinner without food, which would you suggest, the Oloroso or the Amontillado. I've read some tasting notes, but to be honest the two sounded...

Jodie & I took my son gliding over the Yarra Valley for his 14th birthday on Saturday, this was followed by 9 holes of golf (a 44 for me ) and then dinner at the Lobster Cave in Beaumaris (seafood is his favourite). We foolishly ordered the Garlic & Herb bread, an entree each and the Seafood...
