I was interested to see the Cathcart Ridge Grampians 2000 shiraz near the top of the list. This wine won the Winestate Wine of the Year and Shiraz of the Year gongs for 2004. I've not tasted it, but have two bottles in my cellar, which I bought on spec when I found them on sale at $25, compared wit...

I recommended the 2002 Murray Street Cab. Sauv. in my post above, but didn't mention how impressed I was with this wine, which seems to me to offer great value for money. I've not seen it mentioned anywhere on the boards, so was wondering if anyone else has tasted this wine?

Another few goodies worth trying:

Murray Street 2002
Hollick 2002
Serafino 2002
Wolf Blass Heritage Release 2001

... all around the $20-22 mark.

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2002 Marius Shiraz, eventually buying seven bottles (five left). How does the 2003 compare to that earlier wine?

Thanks and regards, Staybaker. :)

Last night, 2003 Glaymond the Landrace (Shiraz Mataro) seriously good, better than the 2002 IMO ... Hi Gavin, I remember you were selling the 2002 Glaymonds earlier this year; are you, or will you be, offering the 2003s at all? I note they are not listed on the auswine web site at present ... Just had a bottle of 2003 Penley Estate "Phoenix" Cabernet Sauvignon, purchased for $15.90. Thought it excellent "bang for the buck", smooth, balanced, went down very well with dinner. Has anyone else tried this wine?

As a relative newbie to the fine wine world in general and Halliday in particular, I'm wondering if anyone knows what criteria are used to decide which wines appear with tasting notes in the book? For example, Craiglee is listed as a 5-star winery, but there are NO tasting notes for any of their win...

Most of my candidates have already been mentioned above, with my favourites being the Kalleske Clarry's, the Teusner Riebke, and the two 2002 Saltram Mamre Brooks. A few others that I've enjoyed, on a price/quality basis, were: Wolf Blass Heritage Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 ($20) Pertaringa Und...

Hi bigkid/Allan,

Great solution! I must admit I couldn't understand your idea earlier, but the photos make it all so clear. I will now think about using your idea in *my* Kennards locker (do you require royalty payments?). Gotta get down there now with my tape measure ...

... clearly just a crowd pleasing quaffer without any real class to it. Hmmm, that seems a bit harsh. Anyway, did a search of this site and came up with an earlier tasting note for this wine from n4sir (Ian): 2002 Serafino McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon (Cork): Dark to inky purple colour. Hi Chuck, I'm a rank beginner in the wine world, and don't feel qualified to post tasting notes yet. Nevertheless, I can give you my impressions: a very full and fruity wine, full of flavour, that my wife and I both loved. We bought a bottle, liked it, then bought a few more to cellar. It cost us $2...

Then you should get the DVD and listen to the Thomas Hayden Church (Jack) and Paul Giamatti (Miles) voice over during the movie. They both provide a very vocal appreciation of Virginia Madsen's (Maya) attributes! Myself, I find Sandra Oh (Stephanie) to be cuter, but the actors probably couldn't mak...
