Re: Older Sparkling Shiraz

I loved those wines in the 90's. I think the sparkling lasted as well if not better than the standard E&E. We used to collect the latter but they started to fade after about 20 yrs....
Didn't think they were as good a wine after the naughties.

Re: Brisbane Offline - Sunday 29 August

Hi guys
Perry has suggested we meet at his place and eat and drink on his back deck. He lives at Wooloongabba. We could each contribute part of a larger share meal. He has said he can do targines, but I know he does great pizzas as well. What do u think?

Re: Christmas 2020 Drinking

Obligatory Rockford Black Sparking (2015) disg, bloody thing disappeared in the blink of an eye, some chardy that kicked above its weight, a Giesen sparkling that did the same and a Hobbs Gregor Shiraz 2016 that was to die for.

Re: Wendouree Wine Notes

Help me here guys, i opened a 2006 Cab Malbec and a 2005 Shiraz, gave both a couple of hours in the decanter and then shared with 7 friends, only to be quite underwhelmed by both..... Neither showed any faults but both seemed to lack any joie de vivre (sic) as it were. Both have impeccable provenanc...

2009 Felton Road Block 5, if Burgundy is better than this, sign me up. This is a wine to die for, maybe Burgundies are wines to live for??

Re: Brett

I'm sure that Brett gets worse in bottle, as most of these wines were tolerable 5 yrs ago. Some get to the stage where u can't even put them near your mouth. Thank heavens it's only a few. I'd hate it if it was endemic in Coonawarra reds for example. I have one wine which I bought a pallet of that h...

Re: Drinkable cheap and nasties....

Mahmoud I used to drink the Lindemans Auburn in the 70s and 80s and it was $2.50 a bottle! A beautiful wine and glad that one lasted for u. Often I get to raid a mates cellar (Ticklenow) has helped me on occasion, and found something old and innocuous and been blown away by them. Remember a 1983 Pip...

Yeah, they're aus wines and all around 2000 to 2005, from all regions. I remember the sweat saddle that was the defining flavour of Hunter shiraz but it was easier to drink..

Is brettanomyces common is many wines over 15 or 20 years old? As my cellar ages, I seem to be finding more wines with it. I can take a bit of it but she who must be obeyed is very sensitive to it and can smell it a mile off and refuses to touch it. Had a great experience with one WA premium (18 yrs...

Drinkable cheap and nasties....

Interested in what u find in the cellar or from other means that belie their origins or price tag. In the last week I've opened a litre bottle of Hardys Insignia shiraz 2013 which was admittedly a simple but quite delicious wine that gave me quite a headache the next morning and a Wolf Blass caberne...

Re: ...risks associated with a cool room without temp/humidity moderation

If you pack your wine in broccoli boxes or some other foam insulation you'll find that it won't vary as much. You will have less of an issue with screw caps, wine won't go off unless the liquid inside the bottle goes well over 40 degrees for half an hour or so (at least according to a Colombo episod...
