2004 Seppelt St Peters & Chalambar
Don't think they got this right.
Heavy oak handling, quite acidic and very dry.
Not sure if it will ever come around

2014 Home Hill Pinot Noir deep dark purple colour crystalline , elegant nose of blackberry and dark cherries. On the palate this wine is very refined, it does not have the alcohol heat of some vintages and has nicely judged acids. Drinking very nicely now and expected to improve. Persistent length

Re: Lost carton

Tough one this. The Delivery instructions leave behind gate means you are taking responsibility, if you say do not deliver, then it's different. Having said thT winery could put pressure on courier company. Ultimately someone could have seen the delivery and hooked it. So in that case not winery's f...

Re: TN: some Penfolds at ten+

My 2cents worth...Penfolds do Cab Shiraz well at the Bin level, straight Cab 407 is not VFM in my view. For $50 and under you can get some snorting WA Cabs Voyager, Woodlands and many others. I suppose there is less competition on the Cab Shiraz market but straight Shiraz provides some good buying s...

Full range of Clemens hill wines and a selection of Tas wines. Tr...

Re: Is 20° too warm for short term storage?

not ideal, but as long as it is fairly constant temp should be ok. Presume it is under cork (less of an issue with screw caps), daily fluctuations in temp will expand and contract the cork which can allow more air into the bottle and can cause premature oxidisation over the long term. I had a friend...

Re: How Best to handle a very old wine

old wines can move quickly in the glass, as GraemeG said you can wait for the wine but the wine can't wait for you. If it were my wine I would open around 30 mins before service, gently double decant and see how it goes. Always good to set aside a glass if people are likely to drink it up soon....ju...

Re: 2010 St Henri

As an up front statement , I collect Penfolds wines and have done so for decades. I collect a lot of wines but I particularly enjoy Bin 389 and St Henri and have verticals of these wines. I believe they are good examples of the genre, they age extremely well and drink extremely well when they are re...

Re: Auction Descriptions

I would have expected a description along the lines of stained label. This is not cellar damage IMO, that is perhaps minor splattering, little rips, tears, dirt and grazes etc. However looks like it is in good condition and no evidence of leakage from around the top of cork is an excellent sign. If ...

Re: Penfolds "Grange" 1971,76,86 alot of 90's, 2002 *FOR SAL

As a general rule probably not a good idea to advertise wine for sale as you need a liquor licence to advertise and sell wine. Gavin obviously has a LL but he is not selling the wine. End result is that it could unintentionally create problems for Gavin. Other sites have had issues with this in the ...

Re: 2012 Riesling

My initial reaction to the 2012 Aust Rieslings was that they were quite ripe and lacked the depth of better vintages. I find that ripe vintages quickly develop overt kero flavour profiles and then go down hill. They may turn out to be very good but they didn't grab me with that must buy feeling. The...

Re: Seppelts Chalambar Shiraz 2012

I had a bottle of the 2003 on New Year's Eve. Even though 2003 wasn't noted as a great vintage I was disappointed. It was fairly muted on the nose with plums on the palate. Would describe it as muddy. No to very little complexity displayed. Could have been heat affected. Glad to hear that the 12 sh...

well, wine will turn into vinegar; so probablly exposed to air and heat. It is probablly on the way to vinegar. some bigger wines like shiraz would probablly hide this better that a lighter variety. some restaurants are very reluctant to open new bottles they see a 3/4 full bottle of a $50 wine and ...

1986 Lindemans Limestone Ridge Cabernet Shiraz This was a blast from the past. Opened and drunk immediately, only decanted to eliminate sediment. Cork was sodden and had shrunk resulting in an easy extraction, but probablly means this wine was not at its best. anyway to the wine , colour was browni...

2010 Mitchell Pepertree Shiraz now had two bottles of this and by far and away this was the better of the two. Medium bodied, fragrant good mouth feel. This bottle was nicely balanced previouse bottle seemed a bit angular. It may have helped that this was consumed with food. St Hallett Eden Valley ...

Re: Will Aust Post wine be cooked with 39c days?

yep i bought a Chianti circa $150 for $30 that had been sitting in a remainders bin outside for months in the sun. The wine was excellent. It is a lottery and probably gets worse if your going to keep the wine for any length of time. The end result is that it is likely that the wine won't be at its ...
