Re: August 2024 Purchases

Good tip Matt I will look out for it. Also, I may have spoken too soon as I opened a bottle of 16 BL cab which is very impressive, I think the 22 maybe just needs to sit a while longer.

22 a bottle on the Cabernet is a steal ! I think mine was around 30 for the 22 and 50 for the 16.

Yeah I actually preferred the 22 Shiraz over the 22 BL cab, which I thought was strange, as I thought they were more well known for their cab. Got it from Dan Murphys for approx $20 a bottle, can’t go wrong

Re: iFavine iSommeliere Decanter

I don’t know if I’d use a blender as maybe it would unsettle the wine ! The iFavine thing seems to be engineered for the purpose. And yeah interesting regarding autodozing, hadn’t heard of that before. I thought the conventional wisdom is that old wines are generally not decanted so as not to lose a...

iFavine iSommeliere Decanter

Hey, I just stumbled across this piece of kit in a video online, which seems pretty intriguing. It’s essentially an electronic decanter that exposes a wine to air and can speed up decanting time from hours to minutes with purified air. Have any of you heard of it before or tried one? Keen to hear op...

I’m relatively new to it all so take what I’ve mentioned with a grain of salt. There is another person claiming he’s received the wine and price list but has been asked to not share it as it’s “under embargo”

Yes was on AFF. I’m new to it all, so am not sure. That guy seems to have been pretty active on the list for a long time so I would be inclined to believe him.

I think the mailer should be imminent though from the sound of things, not that people weren’t expecting it this week already.

Re: July 2024 Purchases

FWIW I love Wynns Black label, regularly wondering if TWE can find a way to f*ck it up, but seemingly they lack their usual flair for destruction. Yes, it is a long haul hobby, and whilst we'll make mistakes, we'll also stumble across some wines that light up our lives. As long as we listen to our ...

Yep great guidance Ian ! And that’s what I was getting at that being direct from producer I.e. agricola, sorrenberg, Wendouree, standish, Sami odi locally is going to be a lot more efficient of a purchasing model as opposed to overseas wines that have a lot more peoples margins built in. But you’re ...

Re: July 2024 Purchases

It’s interesting with all of the ‘growths’ of Bordeaux, but also a little bit annoying how they don’t list the grapes and more so just have to know the region and what it’s known for. It seems like pauillac is the biggest and boldest style with most of the first growths within the region. I’ve got m...

Re: Cellar lists & the quantum of keeping stuff

Yes very intriguing ! I’ve read about the maturation process and am aware in theory of the initial primary fruit, fading into secondary and then into tertiary, and that maturation helps soften the tannins in a wine, but I haven’t tasted it. I might look to buy a few old bottles so I can get more fam...

Re: Cellar lists & the quantum of keeping stuff

I’m only just starting out and for now have a 50 bottle wine fridge that’s near capacity, so I’m more so ‘ one in, one out’ for now. I’ve mostly got big Australian reds in there at the moment and letting them develope, but I’d like to get some nice whites such as Chardonnay’/semillion/dry and sweet ...
