- Aussie vs the world (2 x 2 wines using same grapes, but one is Aussie, the other is from elsewhere). If they enjoy a bit of competition, serve the wines without saying which is which and let them guess I could serve the same wine to a few of these blokes and they wouldn't know and tell me its dif...

Re: Wine To Try

Thanks for the advice guys. Appreciate it. Might be a bit too late to get wine here from Gavin being in Brisbane so would have to be from a retailer.
Happy to spend a little more to get a better drop so will look in $30+

Wine To Try

Hi Guys, I am having half a dozen people over of the weekend for a BBQ. They all drink wine but I wouldn't say they are as interested in it as the people here. I have talked them into a mini tasting session and we would like to try something far removed from standard Aussie cab sauv and shiraz. I wo...

No sure the decision was bad in itself however was just poorly executed in implementation...as is the case with Langtons

Re: Wine Tasting Etiquette

Thanks guys. I have only ever been to cellar doors in Tassie (honeymoon) and Granite Belt (weekend away). I have always at least bought the token bottle from the CD. Some I bought a couple because I did in fact like what I tasted. Large retailers if they have had tasting didn't worry me however I wa...

Re: Wine Tasting Etiquette

Thanks deejay & Tim.
I guess it is easier if it is a wine retailer than a cellar door too.

And do it in a group, odds are someone else will buy something :)

Wine Tasting Etiquette

Hi guys,
Just wondering what the etiquette is for wine tasting?
Is it frowned upon to go to a free tasting in a shop or a cellar door only to turn around walk out and not buy?

Been to a couple of cellar doors and feel awkward with the thought of saying thanks, but no thanks.

Cheers

Honestly my first crack at Riesling. Not sure where it sits quality-wise but I don't mind it at all :D

If you're going to start, that's a pretty good place!! Excellent quality.

Re: Fairly new to wine

Hi Madanie There is a wonderful little book produced many years ago by Tyson Stelzer called 'Cellaring wine'. Lots of great tips especially for those with a DIY talent. AUD10 on release (I have my Eltham bookshop sticker confirming the price!), should be able to find one on abebooks or similar 2nd ...

Re: Fairly new to wine

Thanks for the insight Cactus. I am doing up a sketch with a builder friend to build a little in wall, passive cellar. It will hold about 220 bottles plus I have my fridge. This will limit me expanding too far. As I said above, I am glad I wrote my original question early as the help here and the re...

Thanks for the replies. Its a good option to have. How were the bottles after the flood Rens? The better bottles I have are in the fridge. Only have 20 odd in the cupboard that are my drink nows. Fortunately/unfortunately I don't have that above of space to lose bottles
160 odd bottle bordex rack in a cupboard in coldest part of the house and 30 bottle fridge.

On the cupboard. 18-23deg, when it was 33 in Brisbane today. Different conversation to one above but I am kind of worried.
