Re: Standish
So I have just seen the order form for these and we are talking $95/bottle across the range... Which puts them, what, 40%+ higher than Basket Press or Charlie Melton's reds... and basically at the top end of the Barossa pricing except for the stupid Chateau Tanunda super-special whatever wines and ...

Re: Screw caps
I'd really appreciate if Tyson put this in Decanter or Wine Spectator. I'm sure there's a powerful PR game at play and if this is true its a disgrace. As an expat, it's often a lone hand in fine wine drinking circles fighting back on TCA. There's no attitude of accountability, more an acceptance of...

Re: Screw caps
Tyson Stelzer's Australian Sparkling Report arrived today, and he had quite a bit to say about the extent of cork taint, which he reckons is as bad as ever in percentage terms. I've copied and pasted the relevant section below: I am alarmed and dismayed to report that the positive trend that I obser...

for what it's worth, I got 2015 Mouton Rothschild up here for $10 less than the Vanya is being touted at. Ridiculous. Wow, if we are talking egregious pricing, the three retail shops listed in Australia who are selling Mouton Rothschild for $A1500 per bottle (https://www.wine-searcher.com/find/mout...

Re: Rockford's Kind Gesture
Oh no. Basket Press in screw cap. I can taste a "mature" one now- unevolved, dreary, dark fruits, firey red fruits and fresh leather on the palate with a warmth exaggerated by tannin resolution and still primary fruit. In 5 years time there will be a massive return to cork by those less s...

This sounds interesting. I see some of these old Aussie "ports" show up at auction from time to time for pretty good prices but am always hesitant because I can't find any info on their quality. If I see one of these I'll buy it. Cheers

Woodlands Margaret is the obvious one to me. It’s $52 online so slightly above your range but you can probably find it cheaper I’m guessing...elswise their standard Cabernet Merlot blend (if allowed?) is also delicious and sub $40 to boot. Outside this maybe Cape Mentelle...? Perfect! I just looked...

Good value, consistent Margaret River Cab?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for a good QPR Margaret Rice can I could potential all buy year in year out. My approach to wine is to find producers I like from different regions and stick with them (this doesn’t mean I only buy from those producers, but they may up a disproportionate part of my cellar). ...

Re: TN: Hoddles Creek Chardonnay 2012
I had a bottle of the 2015 over three nights last week and it was much, much better on night 3 than night 1. The acidity was frankly almost punishing to my palate for the first two nights but by the third night was in better balance. I suspect it would have been even better on night 4 or 5. I think ...

People will read all this and next year they'll request a bigger allocation than they actually want. The risk is that you end up with more than you actually want, which is what happened to me last year. At least in that situation, you can easily offload your excess at auction, most likely at a prof...

Re: 25,000 litres of wine destroyed
That seems like a very low price per litre compared to Kellermeister's range, perhaps they produce for third parties, or maybe the court used a lowball valuation, like the production cost or something? Trevor Jones used the work for Kellermeister apparently so I guess there might have been some bad ...

I tend to agree Livcol. Bit of a lottery. Rockford won't be moving to SC for Basket Press any time soon. From a recent email to me: "I am sorry to hear of your corked bottle of 2010 Basket Press Shiraz – while thankfully it is a very rare occurrence for us, it’s always a frustrating when this happens. We work closely with our cork sup...

That makes sense and it's good to know they do that, though I doubt I'd ever contact them personally unless I was 100 per cent certain the bottle was corked. The issue for me is with the ones that are just a bit iffy because of the cork. I'd feel bad asking for a replacement for those but would stil...

Yes have had many bottles happily replaced over the years, whites as well. Cheers Craig I've never tried that. Can you just call up and say "hey, that bottle was crap, send me another please?". Is there a window for doing that or could I call up about a 20 year old BP and get a replacement?

Colleague of wine again dissapointed with his BP over the weekend. 2002 i think. Mentioned it might have suffered from poor corks of the period. He described it as stripped of fruit. Not undrinkable corked. But just stripped of fruit. Bring on the Rockford screw caps! I think all the whites are und...

That sounds outstanding Matt, I wish I'd ordered the Shiraz Malbec now. My first order this year and I just put in for the Cab Malbec, Shiraz Mataro and the straight Malbec. I'm sure I won't be unhappy with those though (if I get them).
