Not sure if this has been brought up before or if anyone else has noticed it, but ol faithful Metala White Label, has gotten rid of all the Single Vineyard markings on the bottle for their current 2018 Vintage. Probably indicating it is not single vineyard anymore? So the dark ribbon under Metala us...

Back on the drink for the last month... some highlights from Lauren's 30th... 1989 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Brut Millésimé Bottle and cork in great condition. Opened with a nice pppsssshhhtttt indicating the wine hadn't gone flat and the cork did its job for the 30years. A light amber colour with f...

Re: Wanted: Advice for attending wine events!!!!
I am in fact asian and found that video interesting. Welcome SFG! but what does being Asian have to do with anything?? Anyway, as you are in Melbourne, taking a shortish drive to the Yarra or Mornington Peninsula and doing some tastings at various wineries would probably be more interesting and ins...

Re: Your Cellar Treasure
Pretty interesting seeing other people's treasures! Agreed, so hard to pick out just 3 but I've gone with something that means more to me, rather than just price/value: There's a couple of birth year wines (not my birth year (my wife)): 1989 Trimbach Clos Ste. Hune Vendanges Tardives 1989 Chateau Ly...

Re: Wendouree Wine Notes
Ok, your kitchen sink approach to complexity pretty much encapsulates every figure of any wine. By this definition, Durifs from Rutherglen would fit your definition of complex wines. They have lashings of tannins, acid and fruit by the bucket and a finish so long you need to wash out your mouth. Ye...

Re: Wendouree Wine Notes
Really? What is not complex about them? People dislike them for a lot of different reasons....But lacking complexity is not one of them.... My apologies but I just find they lack any degree of complexity or finesse. Sort of like trying to dance a Viennese Watlz when your dance partner is a Canadian...

Re: Unicorn wines of the future..
In defence of Grosset rieslings, as a general rule of thumb, I much prefer the Springvale to the Polish Hill. I often just struggle with the acid levels in the Polish Hill even out around 15 years or so. The exception being the 2017 Polish Hill which I have tried at a tasting thought it was superb....

If you like Japanese, Yachiyo in either Mosman or Darlinghurst was fantastic. 2008 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut No formal notes. A good amount of bubbles (not too little, not too much).
